Native Hawaiian Scholars Program

College Connections Hawaii launched the five-year Native Hawaiian Scholars Program to prepare Hawaiian students to attend and succeed in college. Initially the program received its seed funding through a McCabe Grant by the Lumina Foundation. The Office of Hawaiian Affairs came on-board with a two-year grant that has graciously been extended throughout the duration of the project. CCH has also acquired two parallel grants from the US Department or Education, to continue the progression of this tremendous effort.

Applications are still being accepted from Hawaiian public school students in the graduating classes of 2006-2010. Students must complete an application, write a short essay, and get an adult "sponsor" to sign in support of their application. Participants will receive the following "free" services:

From a new NHSP student:

"Thank you so much for accepting me into this program. This acceptance was worth waiting for. I will try very hard in this program. The day I got this letter I was so surprised and shocked that I actually got in. This really means a lot to me because from right now I will be the only one out of my family to graduate from high school and get into a university. I thank you continuously. You just gave me hope that I will be somebody someday. You helped me look forward to the future in a positive light. This acceptance was the first challenge in my life that I really wanted to do and thought about seriously. Thank you for helping my dreams get started."
